Missouri vs Illinois 2010 College Football Picks, 2010 College Football Odds & 2010 College Football Predictions: The Arch Rivalry football series wraps up, at least for the foreseeable future, as the Missouri Tigers and Illinois Fighting Illini square off tomorrow afternoon at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Since winning the Big 10 in 2007, Ron Zook's Fighting Illini have fallen off the wagon, posting a combined 8-16 record over the past two seasons. Illinois really struggled last year, going just 3-9 in spite of returning 13 starters.

This year's Illini squad has 12 starters and 48 lettermen back, including seven and 25, respectively, on the defensive side of the ball. Zook can be thankful for that fact as the returning talent should result in a reduction of 2009's 30.2 points and 403 yards per game allowed averages.

The offense has a new signal caller in redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase, who takes over for Juice Williams. The highly recruited Scheelhaase, coincidently, played just a couple hours down the road from Columbia, Missouri at Kansas City's Rockhurst High School. 

Many felt the Tigers were going to be a rebuilding team a season ago after losing the likes of Chase Daniel, Jeremy Macklin, and Chase Coffman; however, Missouri nearly won the Big 12 North for a third consecutive year after finishing up the regular season with an 8-4 record.

This year's squad returns 15 starters, including junior quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who threw for 3593 yards and 24 touchdowns as a sophomore. While the team loses its top receiver (Danario Alexander) from a season ago and leading rusher in the recently dismissed Derrick Washington, the Tigers spread offense has proven it can handle a personnel change.

Missouri easily won this game last year, blasting the Illini 37-9 in Gabbert's debut (26-of-35 for 325 yards, three touchdowns). Why should things be any different tomorrow? Tigers win another easy one.

Western Michigan vs Michigan State 2010 College Football Odds, 2010 College Football Picks & 2010 College Football Predictions: The Michigan State Spartans open their season tomorrow afternoon against in-state rival Western Michigan. The two teams are scheduled to take the field at Spartan Stadium at 12:00pm ET; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. 2010 College Football Odds, Picks & Predictions at SBGglobal.com have Michigan State listed as a big -24 against the spread home favorite and the game total set at 53.

Western Michigan finished with an impressive 9-4 record in 2008 but fell to 5-7 last season with just 10 starters returning to the team. Bill Cubit's squad should crest the .500 mark once again this season with 13 starters back on campus. Granted, quarterback Tim Hiller and leading rusher Brandon West are gone, but the receiving corps welcomes back its top five and the offensive line retains four starters.

So, even with Hiller's departure (3249 yards, 23 touchdowns), the unit could be just as effective if sophomore quarterback Alex Carder can meet expectations.

Michigan State disappointed last year, following up 2008's 9-4 campaign with a 6-7 record. Head Coach Mark Dantonio has 13 starters and 40 lettermen back from last season's group, including quarterback Kirk Cousins and all-world linebacker Greg Jones (154 tackles, nine sacks).

The Spartans definitely have the talent edge in this matchup, but Dantonio and company are no strangers to being upset by a good MAC squad. Central Michigan came into East Lansing last September and stunned Michigan State 29-27 as a +14 road dog. However, the Chippewas were captained by quarterback Dan LeFevour, the MAC's all-time passing leader. The Broncos, pardon the pun, simply do not have that kind of horse power.

2010 College Football Predictions Betting Trend: The Over is 9-4 over the past three seasons when Western Michigan has played as a road dog.

Arizona vs Toledo College Football Predictions:  I had to look twice when seeing Arizona was travelling to Toledo, Ohio to play the Toledo Rockets of the Mid-American Conference in its 2010 football season debut. Not because I don't think Toledo is worthy of hosting a Pac-10 team but because its not something you see. As it turns out, I"m right -- Arizona's visit to Toledo marks the first football appearance for a Pac-10 school at a Mid-American Conference host. The game kicks off at 8 pm Eastern and will be televised by ESPN.

BetUS.com lists the Wildcats as 16 1/2-chalk favorites ATS while giving -800 for a SU victory. Rockets backers are getting +600 on the moneyline. The posted total opened at 61.

Toledo will be putting a young team on the field against Arizona. In addition to sophomore QB Dantin, Head Coach Tim Beckman will also be featuring 16 other freshmen or sophomores among his top 44 position players. However, a veteran offensive line combined with a more experienced defense could help the Rockets improve on last year's 5-7 record.

The Wildcats went 8-5 in 2009, including wins over USC and UCLA. It was the second-consecutive eight-win season for Arizona and its first string of back-to-back winning seasons since 1997-98. They return junior QB Nick Foles, who threw for 2,486 yards and 19 TDs in 2009. Foles has plenty of targets to choose from, including junior WR Juron Criner (45 receptions, 9 TDs). Senior RB Nic Grisby (567 yards, 7.2 avg.) is a threat to go long. The key to Arizona's season may be replacing seven lost starters on defense.

Game Predictions: Just because Toledo has never hosted a Pac-10 school, doesn't mean they have no experience playing teams from that league, however -- always the visiter. Its only been two years since the Rockets and Wildcats tangled, a 41-16 Arizona victory in Tuscon. Toledo is 0-4 against teams from the Pac-10. After today Toledo will be 0-5 against the Pac-10 and 0-3 against Arizona. The Rockets are very young and short on the caliber of talent needed to upend the Wildcats. I like Arizona giving -16 1/2.
