Kansas City Royals 2010 Baseball Predictions: Not much went right for the Royals last season, and, for that matter, not much has gone right for the franchise for the better part of the past 20 years. The team returned to the AL Central cellar after a brief 2008 respite, finishing with a 65-97 record. Kansas City brass is hopeful that a few off-season maneuvers and some better luck in the injury department keep the team in the mix for the Central crown. 2010 Baseball Predictions at SPORTSBETTING.com are not sure, though, as the Royals are presently listed at +1800 odds to win the division.

Kansas City struggled offensively in 2009 ranking 23rd in the league in runs (686), 26th in on-base percentage (.318), andKansas City Royals 2010 Baseball Predictions 23rd in RBI (657). While the Royals do not figure to be an offensive powerhouse this season, the team's numbers should improve with the additions of Rick Ankiel and Scott Podsenik. Other capable bats that were with the team last season include Billy Butler, who had 21 home runs and 93 RBI last year, Alberto Callaspo, Davis DeJesus, and Jose Guillen.

Kansas City also traded third baseman Mark Teahen to the White Sox for second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman/outfielder Josh Fields. Getz should replace Callaspo, who had 17 errors in 2009, at second base, immediately improving the club's defense. The Royals had the third most errors in the majors last year with 116 and their .981 fielding percentage ranked 28th in the league.

Kansas City's pitching staff, outside of Zack Greinke's Cy Young award winning campaign, was a disaster last season. Injuries to starters Gil Meche and Brian Bannister coupled with poor performance on the part of Kyle Davies and Luke Hochevar limited the overall effectiveness of the rotation, often leading to an overworked bullpen. The relief staff's numbers reflected such as it ranked 29th in ERA (5.02) and WHIP (1.55).

Meche and Bannister are both healthy now, and they should make a nice two and three compliment to Greinke's one if they remain that way. Hochevar and Davies are still question marks, though; both have shown flashes of quality mixed in with an abundance of wretchedness.

The bullpen has some good arms and one of the games best closers in Joakim Soria; however, they will need the starting rotation to work deeper into games on a consistent basis if they are to remain effective over the course of the season.

2010 Baseball Predictions: Fourth Place AL Central. Starting rotation has some bright spots, but there are still too many questions. Offense should be better than a year ago, but the upside, as the team is currently constructed, is middle of the pack.

NY Islanders vs Philadelphia Flyers NHL Prediction PDF Print

The Philadelphia Flyers host the struggling NY Islanders tonight, Tuesday Mar 9, as the Flyers continue to climb the Eastern Conference standings. This is the fifth of six meetings between the Atlantic Division rivals. The Flyers have won all four meetings. NHL oddsmakers at SBGGLOBAL.com have the Flyers as -250 moneyline favs over the Islanders (+210) with the over/under set at 5.5 goals . Be sure to get your NY Islanders vs Philadelphia Flyers NHL Prediction in early at SBGGLOBAL.com

The Islanders (36-31-3-5) have lost seven of their last ten games and five straight on the road. They are 9-18-2-4 on the road where they average 2.33 GAG and allow 3.42 GAG. They recently lost to Boston 2-3 at home. They got goals from Joshua Bailey and Matt Moulson. Goalie Dwayne Roloson stopped 31 of 34 shots and is 2-8 in his last ten with a 4.00 GAA. Overall he’s 20-14-6 with a 2.93 GAA and a .907 SVPCT. After scoring 15 times in his first 31 games, John Tavares has just 2 goals in his last 34 . "I know what John has been going through with the rigors of the NHL season and I have no doubt he's going to be an even better player because of it," Bailey said. With 14 goals, Bailey already has doubled last season's total, and he has 29pts with 17 games left in the season, outpacing his 24pts from last season. Islanders left wing Matt Moulson has a point in five straight games. The Islanders haven't won in Philadelphia since April 7, 2007, a span of nine games.

The Flyers (34-26-2-2) have won six of ten and four of their last five at home. They are 19-11-0-2 at home where they average 3.13 GAG and allow 2.50 GAG. They recently beat Toronto 3-1 at home. They got goals from Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne and Daniel Briere. Goalie Michael Leighton stopped 27 of 28 shots and is 6-4 in his last ten with a 2.30 GAA. Overall he’s 15-7-2 with a 2.73 GAA and a .908 SVPCT. Philadelphia remains the most penalized team in the NHL, and Daniel Carcillo remains among the League's penalty minute leaders. But he’s been playing smarter and benefitting by getting more ice time. He drew a four-minute penalty on Colton Orr for not fighting back when Orr repeatedly shoved and cross-checked him in the first period. He went on to bag an assist. Gagne must have gotten some good rest during the Olympics, because he looks like a rejuvenated player. In the first four games after the break, Gagne had 4 goals and an assist . Flyers defenseman Oskars Bartulis could be ready to come off injured reserve due to the groin injury he suffered in the Olympics, but with six healthy blueliners, he might not get right back in the lineup.

Recent Trends to Consider:
  • Favorite is 24-4 in the last 28 meetings.
  • Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
  • Under is 18-7-1 in the last 26 meetings in Philadelphia.

The Detroit Red Wings host the Calgary Flames tonight, Tuesday Mar 9, as eighth place in the West is on the line. This is the third of four meetings between these two and both clubs have won on road ice this season. NHL oddsmakers at SPORTSBETTING.com have the Red Wings as -200 moneyline favs over the Flames (+160) with the over/under set at 5.5 goals . Be sure to get your Calgary Flames vs Detroit Red Wings NHL Picks in early at SPORTSBETTING.com

The Flames (32-24-3-6) have won six of their last ten games and two of five on the road. They are 16-9-2-4 on the road where they average 2.65 GAG and allow 2.39 GAG. They recently won in Minnesota 5-2. They got goals from Rene Bourque, Mark Giordano and Jarome Iginla (3). Goalie Vesa Toskala stopped 27 of 29 shots in his first start since coming from Toronto. He is 3-7 in his last ten with a 3.60 and overall he’s 8-12-3 with a 3.59 GAA and a .877 SVPCT. The Flames have made the playoffs every season since losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2004 Stanley Cup Final and they will need Iginla to continue putting pucks in the net if they hope to return there this year. Flames left wing Rene Bourque has five points in his last two games , including a four-point effort (1-3-4) last game. They got two goals on the powerplay after going three straight without. The Flames are expected to have a fully healthy lineup.

The Wings (31-22-4-8) have won five of ten and three of five at home. They are 17-9-2-3 at home where they average 2.65 GAG and allow 2.26 GAG. They recently won in Chicago 5-4. They got goals from Brian Rafalski, Nicklas Lidstrom, Jason Williams, Valtteri Filppula and Pavel Datsyuk all in the second period. Goalie Jimmy Howard stopped 28 of 32 shots and is 5-5 with a 3.10 GAA. Overall he’s 24-14-8 with a 2.37 GAA and a .924 SVPCT. "We came out and went to town in the second period," goaltender Jimmy Howard said. "We really played well in the neutral zone and counterattacked and got something on them." Wings center Pavel Datsyuk has scored in five straight games and nine out of his last 10 overall , amassing 12pts (5-7-12) over that span. The Wings have a goal or more on the powerplay in six straight. Veteran Todd Bertuzzi left Sunday’s game in the second period with a lower-body injury and his playing status is uncertain. Fans should expect a tight matchup with both teams trying to grind it out for the all important regulation win and a two-point gain in the standings.

Recent Trends to Consider:
  • Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Detroit.
  • Home team is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings.
  • Flames are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Detroit.
  • Underdog is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
  • Red Wings are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
  • Flames are 1-6 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
  • Flames are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Central.
