Los Angeles Angels 2010 Baseball Predictions

by Matt Foust on Friday, March 5th, 2010

Los Angeles Angels 2010 Baseball Predictions: The Los Angeles Angels have dominated the AL West Division in recent years, topping the standings in five of the last six seasons. They will look to continue that success this year but with a few new characters in the lineup. Los Angeles Angels 2010 Baseball Predictions at SPORTSBETTTING.com have Mike Scioscia's squad pegged as a co-favorite, along with the Mariners, to win the AL West at +175 moneyline odds.

The Angels posted an impressive 97-65 record last season in route to their third consecutive division crown. Los Angeles, Los Angeles Angels 2010 Baseball Predictionswhich bested second place Texas by 10 games, leaned heavily on their offense in 2009, and it did not disappoint, ranking in the top quarter of the league in categories such as runs (883), RBI (841), batting average (.285), and on-base percentage (.350).

Los Angeles rode its potent offense to a 3-0 sweep on the Red Sox in the Division Series (averaged 5.3 runs per game) before falling 4-2 to the Yankees in the League Championship.

While the team did lose table setter Chone Figgins (Seattle) and a power bat in Vladimir Guerrero (Texas), they retained Bobby Abreu and brought in World Series MVP Hideki Matsui. Runs should still be aplenty with those two players joining the likes of Erick Aybar, Torii Hunter, Kendry Morales, and Howie Kendrick.

Surprisingly, the pitching staff faltered last year, ranking 21st in team ERA (4.45 overall, 4.44 starters, 4.49 bullpen) and 24th in batting average against. Like last year, this off-season saw the departure of a major cog in the pitching staff as longtime stalwart John Lackey signed with Boston. However, the Angels did add former Cardinal Joel Pineiro (3.49 ERA, 15-12 record in 2009) to join a rotation that includes Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders, Ervin Santana, and Scott Kazmir/Matt Palmer.

The bullpen, despite last year's sub-par numbers, should be decent in 2010. Brian Fuentes, who led the majors in saves with 48 a year ago, returns to the closer role and the Angels signed Fernando Rodney to serve as the setup man.

2010 Baseball Predictions: First place AL West. Seattle could challenge, but the Angels get the nod on the starting rotation one through five and Los Angeles offense should be far superior to Seattle's.
