2010 MLB Cy Young Odds: With the start of the Major League Baseball season just a few days away, online sportsbook BetUS.com has released their 2010 MLB Cy Young Odds. Former Cy Young winners Roy Halladay and Tim Lincecum are the favorites to win the award in the National League, listed at 2 to 1 and 3 to 1 odds, respectively. In the American League, the favorites are Jon Lester and Felix Hernandez, both of which are listed at 2 to 1 odds to win the coveted prize.
Jon Lester is a somewhat surprising favorite in the American League given the rocky start he had in 2009. The southpaw
finished the year with a 15-8 record and 3.41 ERA, but he produced a 5.40 ERA in April and a 5.86 ERA in May. Hernandez, on the other hand, makes perfect sense. The 23 year old right-hander was runner-up last season after posting a 19-5 record in 34 starts while putting together a 2.49 ERA (4th in majors) and 1.14 WHIP (9th in majors). Hernandez also struck out a career high 217 batters.
The third most favored pitcher to win the 2010 AL Cy Young is last year's winners, Kansas City ace Zack Greinke, at 3 to 1 odds. Greinke went 16-8 for the Royals but he had the best ERA in the majors at 2.16 while ranking sixth in WHIP (1.07), third in strikeouts (242), second in complete games (6), and second in shutouts (3).
Tim Lincecum wrapped up his second Cy Young last year after going 15-7 for the Giants in 32 starts with a 2.48 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. The Washington product also struck 261 batters, second only to Justin Verlander's 269. No shock that he's one of the favorite this season; he should certainly be in the running if he stays healthy, which has never been an issue before.
Roy Halladay escaped the hitters half of the league, and the hitters' division in the AL East, after the Blue Jays traded him to the Phillies in the off-season. God only knows what the Colorado native will do now. Halladay had a 2.79 ERA and 1.13 WHIP for Toronto last year; he also won 17 games and struck out 208 batters. For good measure he led the league in complete games (9) and shutouts (4). The big right-hander puts Lincecum's two Cy Young streak in serious jeopardy.
