2010 MLB AL Central Odds

2010 MLB AL Central Odds: Recent history says that either the Twins or the White Sox will win the AL Central in 2010. Baseball oddsmakers at BetUS.com apparantly agree as Minnesota is listed as a +130 moneyline favorite in the online bookmaker's 2010 MLB AL Central Odds. Chicago is a close second at +180 odds and Detroit is third at +240 odds. The Indians and Royals are pegged for fourth and fifth at +1100 and +1600 odds, respectively.

Minnesota has won the AL Central five times since 2002, including last year's first place finish with an 87-76 record. Not 2010 MLB AL Central Oddsmuch changed for the Twins in the off-season, which leaves Ron Gardenhire's club in line for a second consecutive division crown. The team averaged 5.01 runs per game in 2009 and the core group of players that contributed significantly to that total return, including Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and Michael Cuddyer.

The rotation is also solid top to bottom, but will be anchored by Scott Baker and Kevin Slowey. The starting staff had a dismal 4.84 ERA (26th) in 2009, but that should improve with Baker reverting to form in the back half of the season and Slowey returning from successful wrist surgery.

The Twins did lose arguably the best closer in baseball when Joe Nathan went down in Spring Training with an elbow issue. While that is a huge blow, it will not knock Minnesota off its AL Central perch.

The White Sox do stand poised to challenge the Twinkies with an impressive rotation in place (Jake Peavy, Mark Buehrle, John Danks, Gavin Floyd), but they do not appear to have the offense to keep up. Chicago is no longer looks the bomb squad of the past two or three seasons, however, they should improve upon last season's 4.47 runs per game average.

Detroit appears to be the only other realistic contender in the Central, but the four and five spots in their rotation are suspect at this juncture, and the batting order is not what it once was, even with Cabrera sitting in the four hole.

BetUS.com 2010 MLB AL Central Odds:

Minnesota Twins +130

Chicago White Sox +180

Detroit Tigers +240

Cleveland Indians +1100

Kansas City Royals +1600
