2010 MLB AL East Odds

2010 MLB AL East Odds: The competition in the American League East figures to be tight with three of the better teams in baseball all taking residence there, but, alas, there can be only one winner. Bookmaker.com has New York pegged as the favorite in the online sportsbook's 2010 MLB AL East Odds. The Yankees are presently listed at -110 moneyline odds to repeat last year's feat while the Red Sox are listed as a relatively close +115 moneyline odds to overtake their dreaded rival.

New York, after last seasons' World Series crown, has to be the favorite hear, especially considering some of the 2010 MLB AL East Oddsadditions it made. The Yankees did lose a number of contributors, both big and small, to last year's success, such as Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Brian Bruney, Melky Cabrera, and Phil Coke; however, they added outfielder Curtis Granderson and starting pitcher Javier Vazquez via trade and they also signed a good DH/back-up first baseman in Nicj Johnson.

It will be difficult for the other teams in the division to overcome a starting rotation that goes something like this: C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Javier Vazquez, Andy Pettitte, and Phil Hughes. Add to that the fact that the Yankees will most likley average between 5.5 and 6.0 runs per game and the AL East is theirs once again.

Boston did not take New York's triumph laying down, adding a number of big names as well. Adrian Beltre (3B), Mike Cameron (OF), Bill Hall (UTIL), Jeremy Hermida (OF), John Lackey (SP), and Marco Scutaro (INF) were all welcomed to the fold. The Red Sox rotation is certainly comparable to the Yanks with Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, and John Lackey filling in the first three spots. The run production should be there too (5.38 last season), especially when guys like Beltre, Cameron, and Scutaro are filling out the bottom of the order.

The Rays are other only other horse in this race, but, despite a solid pitching staff and a potent lineup, they do not appear to be the equal of either the Yankees or Red Sox.
