The Dodgers are the favorite at +150 moneyline odds but the Rockies (+225), Giants (+350), Diamondbacks (+400) are all close behind. Coming in a distant fifth is the San Diego Padres at 30 to 1 odds of winning the NL West.
Los Angeles comes into the season as a front-runner based largely on its pitching staff. The rotation, which at this point 
appears to have just four starters, has a great one and two in Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley while the bullpen is anchored by Jonathan Broxton, George Sherrill, and Ramon Troncoso. However, the team is certain to miss Randy Wolf, who pitched well for the team last year, and Vincente Padilla, who the Dodgers acquired mid-season from the Rangers.
The Dodgers offense, which produced 4.81 runs per game, also took a ding with the departures of Orlando Hudson (2B) and Juan Pierre (OF). The team should still plate plenty of runs, though, with Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Manny Ramirez, and James Loney filling out the heart of the batting order.
Colorado could easily trump Los Angeles, despite the loss of Jason Marquis from the rotation. Jeff Francis, who missed all of last season, will take Marquis' place, joining a solid group that includes Ubaldo Jimenez, Aaron Cook, Jorge De La Rosa, and Jason Hammel. Offensively, everyone knows this team can bang out the runs, especially at home. Shortstop Troy Tulowitski looks to be on the verge of stardom and he should equal or surpass last season's great numbers while hitting in the four hole behind Todd Helton.
Neither the Giants nor the Diamondbacks have the hitting of the Dodgers and Rockies, but they do have the ptiching. If Brandon Webb is healthy, Arizona has as good a one-two punch as any team (Dan Haren) as do the Giants with two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum being followed by Matt Cain.
