It’s that time of year when Americas greatest sport starts swinging as the 2010 baseball season is amongst us. The NY Yankees will begin their World Series defense as other teams try to take it away. MLB oddsmakers at BETUS.com have the New York Yankees as +300 moneyline favorites to win the 2010 World Series . Let’s take a look at the top three teams to challenge for the Commissioner's Trophy. The NY Yankees got younger and faster in the off-season to go along with their known power and pitching dominance. They have provided their offense and defense with speed after acquiring All-Star CF Curtis Granderson. Although LF Johnny Damon and CF Melky Cabrera have departed, the acquisition of Granderson and his 30 homers from last year will make up for the speed and power lost, as well as give the Yankees better defense. They also picked up OF Randy Winn and SP Javier Vazquez in the off-season. Other than that they’ll be the same Yankees that won their 27th World Championship in 2009. All-Stars Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, and Mark Teixiera return in the infield, as well as super veteran Jorge Posada behind the plate. They’ll have the best pitchers in the game especially with SP Javier Vazquez in the rotation.

The Philadelphia Phillies landed the best pitcher on the market this off season and they will be able to keep up with the best and the rest. They got Roy Halladay and got rid of Cliff Lee. They also brought in Gold-Glove winning 3rd baseman Placido Polanco from the Detroit Tigers, and RHP Jose Contreras, who will provide a strong arm out in the Phillies Bullpen. Other than that the Phillies will still have their star-studded lineup. They have as much power and speed as any other team in baseball. They’ll be great on the mound with the solid 1-2-3 punch of Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels, and J.A. Happ. The power and speed throughout their 8-man batting order will be knocking them out of the park. The Philadelphia Phillies are listed at +600 to win the 2010 World Series.

The Boston Red Sox made a few moves in the off-season, particularly bolstering their pitching rotation, as well as adding some depth into their already potent offense. They got rid of some players but also added some great talent as they look to get back into championship form. They signed RHP John Lackey in the off-season to go along with Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and either Tim Wakefield or youngster Clay Buchholz. Jonathan Papelbon is back as closer. Victor Martinez will split time between Catcher, 1B and DH this summer, while David Ortiz will be strictly a DH when in the lineup. Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia and Beltre/Lowell will be joined in the infield by SS Marco Scutaro, who had a great year out of the lead off spot last season for the Toronto Blue Jays. This Red Sox team will threaten to come out of the East this season, and could very well be making their first trip back to the World Series since 2007. The Boston Red Sox are listed at +650 to win the 2010 World Series.
