The Angels got a 4-for-3 effort out of off-season acquisition Hideki Matsui, but the team was unable to overcome a poor outing from Santana. The 27 year old Dominican native gave up five hits and four earned runs in six innings.
Minnesota will attempt to build on its two game streak tonight with starter Kevin Slowey on the hill. Slowey had an impressive 10-3 record in 16 starts last year, but his ERA was a pedestrain 4.86. This evening will mark his fifth career start against the Angels; Slowey is 2-1 in his previous four starts versus Los Angeles with a 4.57 ERA (one walk, 14 strikeouts).
Mike Scioscia will counter Slowey with Joel Pineiro. Pineiro had one of the best seasons of his career for the Cardinals in 2009, posting a 15-12 record with a stellar 3.49 ERA. The Puerto Rican also pitched three complete games and worked two shutouts while walking just 27 batters and striking out 105.
Despite the Twins success the past two nights, they are just 6-11 in their last 17 games at Anaheim and 12-18 in their last 30 against the Angels.
