The Red Sox, fresh off their first victory of the season, will shoot for the series win against the Yankees this afternoon as they face their arch rival in a game two battle at Boston. First pitch in today's contest is scheduled for 1:10pm ET at Fenway Park. MLB Odds & Predictions have the Red Sox listed as a -150 moneyline favorite and the game total set at 10. The Over is currently drawing -120 odds.
Boston finally got a win yesterday, beating New York 9-6 to take game one of the series. The Red Sox bats finally came
alive as they chased Yanks starter Phil Hughes in the second inning.
Boston produced seven hits and six earned runs off the 24 year old; the Red Sox finished the game with 12 hits as Dustin Pedroia, Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, J.D. Drew, and Jarrad Saltalamacchia all produced double digit numbers at the plate.
Boston will get another opportunity to punish a young Yankees hurler this afternoon with 24 year old Ivan Nova taking the hill for his second start of the season. Nova, who is 0-2 in two appearances against the Red Sox (6.43 ERA), pitched well in his first outing of the season, giving up six hits and three earned runs in a 4-3 win over the Twins.
Terry Francona will look to start a Red Sox win streak today as he hands the ball to the sometimes dependable Clay Buchholz. Buchholz had a forgettable debut to the season as he gave up four home runs over six innings in a 1-5 loss at Texas. History has shown that the lanky right hander perform better at home, though, where he has put together a 3.23 ERA over the last three seasons (26 starts).
The Texas native has not had overwhelming success against New York, however. Buchholz is 1-2 in five starts against the Yankees with an unimpressive 5.79 ERA.
This has all the makings of a high scoring slugfest, but what else would be expected from these two clubs at Fenway. The average game score in the last 10 meetings between the Sox and Yankees at the historic venue is an eye popping 12.3. Take the Over in this afternoon's dust up.
