Yankees at Rays MLB Picks: The New York Yankees, even on the young MLB season at 2-2 and sitting one game behind Tampa Bay and Toronto in the AL East standings, will send their top starter, C.C. Sabathia (0-0, 8.44 ERA) to the mound today looking to pick up his first win. The Rays will look to their top pitching prospect, righthander Wade Davis who will be making his first start of the season.
Sabathia will head back out trying for his first victory of the season after making his seventh career Opening Day start on April 4 at Boston that resulted with a no-decision. Sabathia limited the Red Sox to two runs through five frames but was charged with five runs on six in his 5 1/3 inning effort. Sabathia was 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA in four starts against the Rays last season, losing both of his starts at Tropicana Field. His last start against the Rays was a 2 2/3 inning tuneup on Oct. 2, in which he allowed nine runs.
Davis will be making his seventh Major League start after winning a Spring Training battle with Andy Sonnanstine for the fifth spot in the Rays' rotation. The rookie right-hander escaped a bases-loaded, no-outs first-inning jam against the Orioles, allowing just three additional base runners for the remainder of the game, striking out the side in the ninth to finish the shutout. Davis has great command of his pitches and isn't afraid to throw a breaking ball on the first pitch. Davis is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in one career start against the Yankees.
MLB Picks: The Rays have been a thorn in the side of New York the last few years. Look for Tampa Bay to win this game on the arm of Davis.
