The Phillies and Marlins conclude their three game set tonight with a rubber match dust up at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. This evening’s contest, which will be broadcast live on the MLB Network, is scheduled for a 7:05pm ET start. The latest MLB Point Spreads have the Marlins listed as a slight -114 moneyline favorite while the Under 8.5 is drawing -120 odds.
Philadelphia earned its second win of the season and evened its series with Miami last night with a resounding 7-1 victory. The Phillies offense, which had been stagnant through the first four games of the season, came alive against the Marlins Josh Johnson, posting 11 hits and six earned runs off the Minnesota native in just 3 2/2 innings. Philadelphia finished the game with 14 hits in 38 at-bats.
Phillies ace Roy Halladay turned in his second gem of the season as he handcuffed the Marlins over seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. Halladay’s performance helped the Phillies improve to 2-3 on the season while bringing Miami’s record to an NL East worst 2-4.
Philly skipper Charlie Manuel will look to build on last night’s win with veteran righty Joe Blanton on the hill. Blanton has yet to make a start this season, but he does have one loss on his record after giving up two hits and one earned run in an April 7th relief appearance against the Pirates. The Tennessee native is 6-2 with a 3.33 ERA in nine career starts against the Marlins.
Miami will send longtime White Sox Mark Buehrle to the mound as it attempts to second consecutive series loss. Buehrle, who is making his second appearance as a Marlin, gave up seven hits and two earned runs in his team debut against the Reds. Despite his solid showing, the crafty veteran got saddled with the loss as Miami produced all of three hits in the 0-4 setback.
Last night’s loss marked Miami’s 11th defeat in the last 16 meetings between these two division rivals. The Marlins are just 2-8 in their last 10 games at Citizens Bank Park.
MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: Miami is 4-1 in its last five games as a road favorite versus a right hander starter with a game total between 8.5 and 9 runs (average margin of victory = 7.25 runs). Over was 5-0 in those games.
