Carl Pavano will take the ball for Minnesota today, hoping to duplicate his last performance. The 11 year veteran got a 4-2 over the Angels last week after giving up just six hits and one earned run in seven innings of work. Pavano has not had great success against the Red Sox, though, going 2-3 in six starts against them with a rather lofty 7.07 ERA.
Boston evened its record at 3-3 yesterday after getting a 2-1 series victory against the Royals in Kansas City. The Red Sox roughed up Royals starter Gil Meche for four runs in the first inning and held on for an 8-6 win. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia broke out of an early season funk by going 4-for-5 with a home run while new third baseman Andre Beltre also had a big day with a 3-for-5, three RBI effort.
The Red Sox will look to keep their newly found momentum rolling with 26 year old lefty Jon Lester on the hill. Lester had a miserable first outing as the Yankees lit him up for five hits and four earned runs in five innings in a 6-4 loss last week. Lester also had a rough beginning to the 2009 season as he put together a 5.40 ERA in the month of April.
Lester is 0-1 against the Twins in three starts with a 5.66 ERA.
