Vazquez has made just four career starts against the Angles, but his ERA in those outings is an impressive 2.89.
Los Angeles fell to 2-6 after their game one stumble against New York. The only bright spot in yesterday's loss was a top of the ninth grand slam from former Yankee Bobby Abreu. The Angels have yet to win a series this season and they will need a win today in order to have a chance of doing that in New York.
Joel Pineiro will get the ball today from manager Mike Scioscia. The Puerto Rican native pitched six innings in his Angels debut last week, allowing five hits and three earned runs in a 10-1 loss to Minnesota. Pineiro has a 2-3 record and 3.43 ERA in 16 previous appearances (eight starts) against the Yankees.
