The last place Boston Red Sox host American League East rival Toronto tonight as they look to get their horrendous start headed in the right direction. This evening's divisional contest is scheduled to get underway at 7:10pm ET at legendary Fenway Park. The latest MLB Odds have the Red Sox listed as a -190 moneyline favorite; the game total is set at 9.5 with both the Over and Under drawing -110 odds.
Toronto got off to a respectable 5-2 start, but the Blue Jays have fallen on hard times of late, losing four of their last five
to bring their record to an even 6-6. The Jays, which are heading into the final series of a 10 game road swing, snapped a four game skid on Wednesday night with an 8-3 beating of the Seattle Mariners.
Toronto banged out 14 hits in the victory and slugger Jose Bautista belted his third home run of the season after taking reliever Chris Ray deep in the top of the eighth with two runners on base. Rookie hurler Kyle Drabek limited the punchless Mariners to two earned run over 5.2 innings in his third start of the season.
Left hander Brett Cecil gets the call for Toronto tonight as he tries to rebound from a horrible outing against the Angels. Cecil, who is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA this season, gave up 10 hits and five earned runs to Los Angeles in a 5-6 Jays loss last Saturday night.
Cecil is 2-3 with a 6.51 ERA in five career starts against the Red Sox. He last pitched against Boston in September of 2010 when he allowed seven hits and five earned runs (six innings) in an 11-9 Toronto win at Fenway.
The Red Sox, the favorite to win the AL Pennant coming into the season, enter tonight's game with a major league worst 2-9 record. Boston last played on Tuesday night when it lost for the second straight game to East rival Tampa Bay.
The Red Sox, which rank 27th in runs scored (40), managed just five hits and two runs against the Rays David Price in the setback.
Clay Buchholz, who has also been off track this season, will take the hill for Manager Terry Francona this evening. Buchholz is 0-2 in two outings after allowing 13 hits and eight earned runs in 10 innings of work. Facing the Blue Jays may be just what Buchholz needs to get things turned around, though. The Texas native is 6-3 in 10 appearances against Toronto with a 2.50 ERA.
Blue Jays vs Red Sox Odds 2011 MLB Predictions:
Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 (-125), Over 9.5 (-110), +160 (Moneyline)
