Minnesota took sole possession of first place in the Central yesterday after recording an 8-0 series winning victory against the Red Sox. The Twins, which are presently 7-3, tagged Tim Wakefield for 10 hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings. Starter Francisco Liriano was brilliant, giving up just four hits and no earned runs in seven innings of work.
Scott Baker will make his third start of the season tonight when he takes the ball for Ron Gardenhire. Baker is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA thus far. The former Oklahoma State star gave up five hits and one earned run at Chicago in his last start; Minnesota won the game 2-1. Baker has had good success against Kansas City in his career, going 7-3 in 12 starts against the Royals with a 3.16 ERA.
