Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Angels MLB Predictions

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

The Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels are poised for some game two action tonight in Anaheim, California. The Angels won a close contest last night and are a slight favorite to win this evening's ball game. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:05pm ET at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Angels MLB Predictions

Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Angels MLB Predictions at BetUS.com have the Angels listed as a -115 moneyline favorite.

The Angels snapped a three game losing streak last night as they overcame the Tigers 4-3 in game one of their three game set. Jered Weaver turned in a solid pitching performance, keeping the Detroit at bay by allowing just three runs over seven innings.

Weaver did not get a lot of run support but what he did get was enough to secure the win. Gary Matthews proved to be the hero for Los Angeles offensively as his eighth inning double brought in Torii Hunter for the go ahead/game winning run. Hunter had a decent night as well, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The victory improved the Angels to 5-8, but it did not get them out of the AL West cellar.

Mike Scioscia will look to win the series tonight behind the arm of left-hander Joe Saunders. Saunders is off to a great start this year, sitting at 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA. The 27 year old Virginia native has given up just 13 hits and five earned runs in 20.2 innings of work.

Saunders, however, did not fare well against Detroit last season, going 0-1 in two starts against them with an unspectacular 6.35 ERA.

The Tigers, despite last night's loss, remained tied (Royals, White Sox) for first place in the AL Central with a 7-6 record. Detroit managed eight hits in yesterday's game, most of those coming from Curtis Granderson and Carlos Guillen. Granderson hit two solo home runs while Guillen broke out of his recent slump with a 3-for-4 night at the plate.

Another Virginia product will start opposite Saunders tonight as 26 year old Justin Verlander gets the nod for the Tigers. Verlander is off to a rough start this year, going 0-2 in three appearances. The right-hander has allowed 14 earned runs in 16 innings of work for a 7.88 ERA.

Verlander is 0-2 in three career starts against the Angels. Last season he was 0-1 versus Los Angeles with a 9.53 ERA.
