The Cardinals enter tonight's series fresh off a 9-4 rubber match win over the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Colby Rasmus
played hero for St. Louis on a night Albert Pujols failed to get a hit in five at bats. Rasmus went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs after belting two home runs. The win improved to Cards record to 10-5 and left them two games ahead of the second place Brewers in the NL Central.
The Giants ran their current losing streak to four games last night, falling 2-5 to the Padres in San Diego. San Francisco, which failed to win a game in its series with the Padres, now stands at 8-7 on the season and one game back of first place San Diego in the NL West.
St. Louis will attempt to get its 11th win with 23 year old Jaime Garcia on the hill tonight. Garcia has been brilliant in two starts this year, posting a 1-0 record and 0.69 ERA. The Cardinals lost his last start 2-1 in a 20 inning marathon with the Mets, but the setback had nothing to do with Garcia's effort. The Reynosa, Mexico native gave up just one hit and no earned runs in seven innings of work.
The Giants will counter Garcia with two time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum. Lincecum is 3-0 in three starts this season with a 0.90 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. He presided over a 9-0 win at Los Angeles in his last start, giving up four hits and no earned runs in six innings. Lincecum is 4-0 in four career starts versus the Cardinals with a 1.61 ERA.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Giants are 8-2 in Tim Lincecum's last 10 starts as a home favorite, winning by an average of 3.6 runs per game. St. Louis is 3-7 in its last 10 games as a road dog with a spread between 160 and 180, losing by an average of 2.9 runs per game.
