Braves at Mets MLB Picks: National League East rivals New York Mets and Atlanta Braves are heading in opposite directions. The Mets have won three in a row and five of their last six while the Braves are spiraling, losers of four straight. Sunday (8:05 p.m. Eastern, ESPN) the Mets will try to add to the Braves woes when they send ace right-hander Mike Pelfrey , who at 3-0 in starts this season has been solid with a 0.86 ERA. Countering for Atlanta will be hot prospect Tommy Hanson. The Braves right-hander is 1-1 on the season with a 2.81 ERA.
Atlanta is a slight -113 favorite on the SBGglobal.com money line with a 7-run total. Mets backers are getting +103 money line odds as a home underdog.
In Hanson's last start against Philadelphia last Tuesday, the 23 year old allowed two earned runs in just 4 2/3 innings while throwing 102 pitches. One of the primary reasons he compiled a high early pitch count came via the 23 pitches the Phillies fouled. Hanson's command hasn't been as sharp as it was last year, but he still hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of his first three outings. During his only previous start against the Mets last year, Hanson allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings.
Pelfrey, who has pitched at least six innings in eight straight starts, hasn't allowed a run in 19 innings, equaling his longest career shutout streak. Against the listless Cubs, he surrendered merely three hits, none in the first four innings, and walked three, none in the last four.
MLB Picks: The Braves lineup has been punch less of late and will now be without Chipper Jones for a few days. We like the Mets getting +103 odds in this one.
