The Boston Red Sox will look to continue their recent turnaround tonight when they open a four game set with the White Sox in Chicago. This evening’s series opener, which features starters Felix Doubront and Philip Humber, is scheduled for an 8:10pm ET start at U.S. Cellular Field. MLB Point Spreads have the game listed as a -105 moneyline pick’em; the game total is set at eight runs.
Boston still finds itself three games under .500 at 7-10, but the team appears to be headed in the right direction after sweeping the Twins in Minnesota. The Red Sox pounded out 24 runs in the three game set and finally got some decent pitching, yielding 13 runs to the Twins after giving up an average of 9.2 runs per game during the five game losing streak in carried into the series.
Chicago, which remains in a three way tie for first place in the AL Central with a 10-8 record, comes in reeling just a bit after dropping two out of three to the Athletics in Oakland. The White Sox, who swept the Mariner prior to their arrival in the Bay Area, opened their series in Oakland with a win, but fell 2-0 in game two and 4-5 in game three.
Chicago will look to get back on a winning track with 29 year old righty Philip Humber on the hill. Humber last took the mound on April 21st in Seattle; he completed the start by putting together the 21st perfect game in major league history. Humber struck out nine in the masterful performance, lowering his ERA to 0.63 for the season.
Boston Skipper Bobby Valentine will counter Humber with young southpaw Felix Doubront. The Venezuela native, who is making his fourth start of the season, brings a 3.94 and 1.50 WHIP in tonight’s game. Doubront turned in his best effort of the season in his last outing, limiting the Yankees to four hits and one earned run over six innings; he walked three and struck out seven in the 9-15 Red Sox loss.
The Red Sox posted a 2-4 record against Chicago last year, but they won their two most recent meetings with the White Sox, both of which took place in the Windy City, beating them 10-2 and 5-3.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The White Sox are 1-7 when Humber starts at home with a game total between 7.5 and 8 runs.
