Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres 2012 MLB Point Spreads

nationals jacksonThe red hot Washington Nationals will take aim at a fifth straight win tonight when they wrap up their three game series at San Diego. First pitch in this evening’s MLB nightcap is scheduled for 10:05pm ET at Petco Park. The latest MLB Point Spreads have the Nationals and the Under 6.5 listed as -112 and -130 moneyline favorites respectively.

The NL East leading Nationals, who have yet to lose a series this season, ran their current win streak to four games last night with a 7-2 game two win over the Padres. Washington, now 14-4 overall, saw starter Jordan Zimmerman give up just hits and one earned run to the light hitting Padres in the victory.

The Nationals offense produced 11 hits, including three from first baseman Adam LaRoche, to help them procure their eighth three or more run win of the season. Danny Espinosa and Wilson Ramos also had multi-hit games and six different Washington players recorded an RBI in the lopsided contest.

The Nationals Edwin Jackson gets the call in tonight’s game as he makes his fourth start of the season. The veteran journeyman has one outstanding effort under his belt this season, a two hit, one earned run, nine inning showing against the Reds on April 14th. He was not impressive at all in his last start, though, giving up seven hits and five earned runs over five innings in a 4-11 loss to the Astros.

San Diego, which fell to 5-14 with yesterday’s loss, will attempt to stop its losing skid at two games with Edinson Volquez toeing the rubber. Volquez has been serviceable in four starts, posting a 4.30 ERA, but the Padres are 0-4 in his four appearances this year. The 28 year old Dominican native does own some solid numbers in seven career appearances at Petco Park (2.89 ERA, 1.12 WHIP), but his record at the notorious pitchers venue is a lackluster 1-3. Volquez has yielded 10 hits and nine earned runs in 8 1/3 innings opposite the Nationals.

MLB Point Spreads Betting Trend: The Nationals are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a road favorite with a total between six and seven runs.
