Yankees starter Phil Hughes, appearing in his first game this season, befuddled the Detroit lineup for six innings as he allowed just two hits and no earned runs. The Tigers, who are averaging 5.3 runs per game this year, finished the game with a total of just four hits.

New York will send 23 year old Joba Chamberlain to the hill this evening in hopes that highly touted pitcher can garner his first win of the season. Chamberlain is 0-0 on the year with a 3.94 ERA in three starts. He has pitched a total of 16 innings, giving up 19 hits and seven earned runs. Joba has struggled with his command at times, as evidenced by his having almost as many walks as strikeouts (10 to 11). New York has gone 1-2 in the Nebraska product's appearances.

Detroit will start rookie phenom, Rick Porcello. The 20 year old Porcello is 1-2 in his three starts this year with a 4.50 ERA. The 6'5" New Jersey native has worked 18 innings and given up nine earned runs, 18 hits, and three walks while striking out 11. Opponents are batting a pedestrian .257 against the young right hander.
