The Dodgers will look to get a series win this evening as they face Chicago in a game two battle at Los Angeles. Tonight's contest, which features veteran right handers Ryan Dempster and Chad Billingsley, is scheduled to get underway at 10:10pm ET at Dodgers Stadium. MLB Odds have Los Angeles listed as a -155 home favorite; the Over/Under is set at 7.5 with the Under favored at -115 odds.
Chicago fell to 12-16 last night after losing their series opener with the Dodgers 5-2. The setback represented the Cubs
eighth loss in their last 11 games, a slide that has relegated them to fifth place in the six team National League Central.
The offensively challenged Cubs managed eight hits and two earned runs off of Los Angeles lefty Clayton Kershaw, and they were stymied by relievers Vincente Padilla and Jonathan Broxton as well with each hurler not allowing a single hit.
The Dodgers scored four earned runs in just over four innings against the Cubs' James Russell. Andre Ethier belted a single off of the 25 year old southpaw in the fifth inning to increase his league leading hit streak to 28 games.
Ryan Dempster will attempt to outperform Russell this evening as he makes his seventh start of the season. Dempster has been dreadful all year long, but he hit a new low his last time out, giving up four hits and seven earned runs to the Diamondbacks in a 1/3 of an inning. The performance brought his season ERA to staggering 9.58.
Los Angeles (15-15) will counter Dempster, who owns a 7-3 record in 23 appearances against the Dodgers, with hard throwing righty Chad Billingsley. Billingsley has had his share of struggles this year too, but his 2-1 record and 4.46 ERA seem Cy Young-like next to Dempster's numbers.
Billingsley turned in one of his better performances of the season a couple of weeks ago in Chicago, when he held the Cubs to seven hits and one earned run in a 12-2 Los Angeles' victory. The Ohio native is 4-3 with a 3.47 ERA in nine career outings against the Cubs.
Los Angeles has won six of its last eight against Chicago, including four of the last five at Dodgers Stadium.
