Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Baseball Predictions at BetUS.com have tonight's game listed as a moneyline pick'em. The game total is set a 10 with both the over and under receiving -110 odds.
The Red Sox dropped their fourth game in their last six outings yesterday when the Rays beat them 5-3 at Tropicana Field. Starting pitcher Brad Penny had a decent performance, but he was unable to compete with Tampa starter James Shields. Penny yielded six hits and three earned runs in six innings while Shields held Boston to two earned runs over seven innings.
Kevin Youkillis and J.D. Drew were the only two Red Sox to have respectable days at the plate; they combined for five hits in eight at bats and produced three RBI. The Rays' Carl Crawford went 4-for-4 and had a record tying six stolen bases.
Boston, at 15-10, is still in second place in the AL East. The Red Sox trail the first place Blue Jays by two games and they are a game and a half ahead of the third place Yankees.
New York snapped a four game win streak on Saturday when they fell 8-4 to the Los Angeles Angels. C.C. Sabathia continued his struggles, going 6.2 innings and giving up four earned runs. He saw his record drop to a dismal 1-3 with the loss.
The Yankees, who were a -260 moneyline favorite in the game, managed just three hits and one earned run off of second year man Matt Palmer. The lone offensive bright spot for New York was a two run pinch hit homer by Jorge Posada in the ninth inning.
The Yanks fell to 13-1 with the defeat; they are 5-5 over their last 10 games.
Boston starter Jon Lester will face the Yankees for the second time this season when he takes the hill tonight. The Red Sox won his first start against New York 5-4 on April 24th. Lester gave up seven hits and two earned runs over six innings in the victory. On the season, the Tacoma, Washington native is 1-2 in five starts with a 5.40 ERA.
The Red Sox are 3-0 in Lester's last three starts, despite his lackluster pitching. The 25 year old gave up five earned run in six innings of work in his last appearance, a 6-5 victory at Cleveland.
New York will counter the southpaw Lester with 22 year old righty Phil Hughes. Hughes made his first start of the season on April 28th and he looked fantastic in garnering the win. The California native pitched six innings and gave up just two hits in an 11-0 beating at Detroit.
Hughes had one start against the Red Sox in 2008, it was a forgettable Fenway outing as he allowed six earned runs in two innings.
