Mets vs Rockies Odds 2011 MLB Predictions

by Matt Foust on Monday, May 9th, 2011

The reeling Rockies will attempt to halt their recent slide as they open a three game set with the Mets in Denver this evening. The two teams, which had been headed in opposite directions most of the season, are scheduled to hit the diamond at Coors Field at 8:40pm ET. MLB Odds have Colorado listed as a -175 moneyline favorite in tonight's series opener; the game total is set at nine with both the Over and Under drawing -110 odds.

New York fell 2-4 to the Dodgers at home yesterday, but the Mets, which had won three straight prior to that loss, still won Mets vs Rockies Odds 2011 MLB Predictionsthe series 2-1. The victorious weekend set brought the club's record to 15-19 on the season, but it did not aid them in their quest to escape the NL East cellar.

New York, which trails the first place Phillies by 7.5 games in the division standings, remains a game back of the fourth place, 16-18 Nationals.

Left handed hurler Chris Capuano will attempt to cut that deficit to a half game this evening as he makes his eighth start of the season. Capuano, who has presided over Mets' losses in his last two outings, owns a 2-3 record with a 5.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP coming into tonight's game. He has achieved those lackluster totals despite walking just nine and striking out 24 in 31.2 innings of work.

Capuano, who gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in a April 14th start against Colorado, is 4-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 10 career appearances opposite the Rockies.

The Rockies fell to 18-14 yesterday after getting swept by the Giants in San Francisco. Colorado, which has lost four in a row and seven of its last 10 games, still sits atop the NL West standings, though, with a one game lead over the defending world champs.

Twenty-three year old Jhoulys Chacin will be charged with getting his team back on track tonight as takes the hill for Skipper Jim Tracy. Chacin is 4-2 on the year with a 2.85 ERA; he has earned a quality start in four of his six outings this season.

Despite his solid numbers, Chacin has shown a propensity for yielding the long ball of late, giving up six homers in his last 19 innings pitched.

MLB Predictions Betting Trend: The Rockies are 7-3 straight up in their last 10 games as a home favorite against a left handed pitcher. The Over is 8-2 in those same 10 games.

Mets vs Rockies Odds 2011 MLB Predictions:

New York Mets +1.5 (-135), Over 9 (-110), +155 (Moneyline)

Colorado Rockies -1.5 (+115), Under 9 (-110), -175 (Moneyline)
