Blue Jays at Red Sox MLB Picks & Odds – May 11, 2010: The Toronto Blue Jays were popular preseason choices to finish last in the AL East this year. But after winning nine of their last 12 games the Jays are four games above .500. This week Toronto continues a three-game series in Boston on Tuesday (7:10 pm Eastern, MLBTV) and a matinee Wednesday (1:35 Eastern), then heads home to host the leaders of the AL West, the Texas Rangers, for three games this weekend, starting Friday.
Getting the start for the Blue Jays in Tuesday's game is lefthander Dana Eveland (3-1, 3.82). Eveland outdueled fellow left-hander John Danks on Thursday, as the Blue Jays went on to defeat the White Sox, 2-0. Eveland went seven innings, allowing only two hits while tossing in three strikeouts.
Countering for the Red Sox is Daisuke Matsuzaka who is even on the season at 1-1 in spite of a lousy 9.90 ERA. In his first two starts since coming off the disabled list, Matsuzaka has been victimized by one bad inning. He gave up four runs in the first inning in his last start but bounced back well enough to earn the win. In that one, Dice-K gave up five hits and five runs over 5 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three, throwing 92 pitches. His first start was the complete opposite, as Matsuzaka was brilliant over his first four innings and then allowed six runs in the fifth. In 37 career starts at Fenway, Matsuzaka is 20-11 with a 4.47 ERA. Lifetime against the Blue Jays, he is 7-4 with a 3.86 ERA.
MLB Picks: If Dice-K has it going as he did in his first outing the Sox will be tough to beat. Take Boston at -150.
