The Blue Jays wrap up their six game home stand tonight as they host American League East rival Boston in a series concluding game two showdown at the Rogers Centre. Two streaks came to an end last night with Toronto's 7-6, 10 inning victory as Boston came into the game having won three
straight while the Blue Jays entered the series opener in the midst of a three game slide.
Toronto got to the Red Sox' Jon Lester, who had won his four previous starts, early and often, battering the five year vet for seven hits and five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Six Jays finished the game with at least one RBI, including Jose Bautista, who hit his 11th home run of the season off of Lester in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Lester's uncharacteristic effort spoiled a 3-for-6, two home run, three RBI night at the plate from Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who hit one home run and drove in 15 in the month of April, has belted five homers and recorded 13 RBI in 10 May games.
The struggling John Lackey gets the call from Manager Terry Francona tonight; he will be countered by 26 year old righty Jesse Litsch. Lackey, who is 4-5 lifetime against the Jays (15 starts), owns a 2-4 record and 7.16 ERA this season. Litsch is 3-2 in six starts with a 4.04 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
Boston, which is 7-11 following a loss this year, has won four of the last six games in this series.
