The New York Yankees are in Toronto tonight to face an old nemesis, Roy Halladay. The American League East matchup is scheduled to get underway at 7:07pm ET at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Yankees, who are 5.5 games back of Toronto in the division standings, will be looking to gain ground on the Blue Jays when they begin their three game series this evening.
New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays at SBGglobal.com have the Blue Jays listed as a -138 moneyline favorite in tonight's game. The total is set at 8.5 with the over and under both receiving -110 odds.
Blue Jays hurler Roy Halladay is off to another incredible start, posting a 6-1 record in seven appearances this season. Halladay, who already has a Cy Young under his belt, has worked an average of 7.4 innings in his starts and given up an average of 7.2 hits per game. The Colorado native has yielded 19 earned runs for a 3.29 ERA.
Halladay pitched a gem in his last outing as he gave up six hits and one earned run in a 13-1 victory over the Angels in Anaheim. He had six strikeouts in the win, bringing his season total to 44 (fifth in the American League).
New York has long been familiar with Halladay's stuff; the Yankees have succumbed to his pitching prowess on a number of occasions. Over the last three seasons, the 11 year vet has amassed a 7-1 record versus the Yanks in 12 starts. He has struck out 56 and given up 71 hits in 84 innings while producing a lowly 2.36 earned run average.
Countering the Denver product this evening will be his former teammate, A.J. Burnett. Burnett will be facing the Blue Jays for the first time since leaving Toronto in the off-season. He has had his share of ups and downs as a member of the Yankees this year, but is 2-0 in six starts and New York is 4-2 when he has taken the hill.
Burnett enters tonight's game with a 5.26 ERA after having given up 22 earned runs in 37.2 innings pitched. His last game did anything but help his numbers as he allowed six hits and three earned runs in six innings of a 4-3 loss versus Tampa Bay.
