The Twins and Tigers are set to resume their three game series tonight with a game two skirmish slated for the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Last night Minnesota took a 1-0 series lead by beating the Tigers 6-2. This evening's contest is scheduled to get underway at 8:10pm ET.
Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins Free MLB Picks at SBGglobal.com have the Tigers listed as a +135 moneyline underdog. The game total is set at 10 with the under being favored at -115 odds.
The Tigers snapped a three game winning streak last night as starting pitcher Armando Galarraga got roughed up by the Twins inside the dome. Galarraga lasted just over five innings and gave up six hits and five earned runs to Minnesota's lineup. Joe Mauer and Joe Crede inflicted most of the damage to Galarraga. Crede hit a two run blast in the second inning and Mauer followed course by unloading a two run bomb in the third.
The Tigers had plenty of hits but plated just two runs, both of which came via solo home runs (Larish, Santiago). Twins starter Kevin Slowey kept Detroit in check, allowing just one earned run in six innings pitched.
The Tigers will try to maintain their first place tie with the Kansas City Royals by sending southpaw Dontrelle Willis to the mound tonight. Willis, who was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder during spring training, will be making his first start of the year. Jim Leyland is hoping the former star performs better than he did last year. The 27 year old went 0-2 in seven 2008 starts with a 9.39 ERA.
The Twins, who are currently in third place in the AL Central with a 16-17 record, will counter Willis with a left-hander of their own. Glen Perkins will take the hill for Ron Gardenhire for the seventh time this season. Perkins is 1-2 in his outings with a 3.73 ERA. The St. Paul native is 0-2 in his last two starts after giving up 15 hits and nine earned runs in 12 innings of work.
