Washington, which will be going for its fourth consecutive series victory, enters tonight's meeting with the Rockies sitting in MLB Odds: Nationals vs Rockies MLB Picks - May 13th, 2010second place in the National League East with a 19-15 overall record. The surprising Nationals are a mere 1.5 games out of first place, a prospect not many envisioned for the club in mid-May. Amazingly, Washington has achieved its early season success despite having given up 16 more runs than it has scored.

Tonight's starter, John Lannan, has not contributed to the Nationals winning ways of late. The left-handed hurler is 0-2 in his last two starts after giving up nine earned runs in 11 innings pitched. On the year Lannan is 1-2 in six starts with a bloated 6.34 ERA. The 25 year old New York native has walked 18 and struck out just 12 batters in 32.2 innings of work; opponents are also hitting at a .333 clip against him.

Colorado brought its record 16-17 yesterday with a 4-3 win over the Phillies at Coors Field. Catcher Miguel Olivo went 5-for-5 in the victory and he ended the contest with a walk-off solo bomb in the bottom of the 10th inning.

With a series win against the Nats, the Rockies can remain a player in the National Leauge West, where they presently trail the first place Padres by five games.

Making his third start of the season for Colorado tonight is converted reliever Jhoulys Chacin. The 22 year old has been lights out for the Rockies thus far, giving up zero earned runs and striking out 16 in 15.1 innings pitched. Colorado is 3-0 when the right handed Chacin has pitched this season, winning by an average of 7.3 runs per game.
