The Padres will give the ball to righthander Mat Latos (2-3, 4.19 ERA) while the Giants look to Jonathan Sanchez (2-2, 3.00 ERA) a lefthander.
Latos is coming off the best start of his young career, as he turned in eight scoreless innings in his last start against the Astros on Friday. He allowed just two hits on the night and struck out nine with no walks in just his 16th career start.
Giants starter Sanchez threw seven innings in a no-decision on Friday night against the Mets, allowing four earned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three. The southpaw allowed his first two hits of the season to a lefty, both home runs. He also had his lowest strikeout total of the season. Nevertheless, Sanchez showed toughness by battling through the seventh, after giving up four earned runs through the first four innings. This is a good sign of maturation for the 27-year-old, who now has a solid 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the year. His next start will be on May 12 against the visiting Padres.
The Padres have had the Giants number of late. After their 5-2 win over the Giants at AT&T Park on Wednesday, San Diego has won nine of its last 12 games against the Giants, including all five meetings this season.
