Nationals at Rockies MLB Picks: The Washington Nationals, everyones last place pick in the National League, have become the feel good story of the league in this young 2010 MLB season. The Nats (20-15) are on Philadelphia's heels in the NL East race only one game back in the standings and are currently on a two game winning streak.
Friday night (9:10 pm Eastern) the Nats will shoot for their third straight win when they take on the Colorado Rockies out in Denver. Fans should expect a pitchers duel in this game as veteran righthander Livan Hernandez (4-1, 1.04 ERA) gets the start for Washington while Cy Young candidate Ubaldo Jimenez (6-1, 0.93 ERA) toes the rubber for the Rockies.
Jimenez held the Dodgers to one run and two hits in seven innings of his last start, but wound up on the losing end of a 2-0 final. Jimenez could have prevented the run had he properly fielded a hard smash back to the mound on the play that drove home the winning run. Still, Jimenez has 49 strikeouts against 20 walks while being consistently dominant.
Even though Hernandez got stuck with a no-decision, he gave up just one run on five hits in seven innings as Washington beat Florida, 3-2. Hernandez's ERA actually went up despite giving up just the one run in seven innings. That's how effective he's been all season long.
MLB Picks: The Nationals might be hot but they are facing a pitcher who is hotter. Take Colorado -240 ml in this one.
