The Milwaukee Brewers kick start a four game western road swing tonight as they face the Dodgers in game one of a two game set at Los Angeles. First pitch in this evening's National League contest is scheduled for 10:10pm ET at Dodger Stadium. MLB Odds have the Brewers and the Under seven listed as -130 and -125 favorites, respectively.
The Brewers are starting to show signs that they might be the team many envisioned they would be when the season got
underway almost a month and a half ago. At 19-21, Milwaukee still sports a sub .500 record, but the Brew Crew have been barreling their way toward the even mark by winning five of their last six games.
Most recently Milwaukee swept NL Central rival Pittsburgh at Miller Park, beating the Pirates 5-2, 8-2, and 9-6 over the weekend to bring their home record to an impressive 13-6.
If the Brewers want to challenge the Reds and Cardinals for the National League Central crown, though, they must find a way to win on the road, particularly against clubs like Los Angeles that have struggled to remain consistent at home (10-11).
Shaun Marcum, tonight's starter, could be just the man to help the Brewers overcome their road woes (1-8 last nine away games). Marcum, who is coming off a horrific home appearance against the Padres (six innings, nine hits, five earned runs), has given up a meager 17 hits and one earned run in his last four road starts (27 innings pitched).
Los Angeles, which comes into tonight's game with a 19-22 record (Third place NL West), will counter Marcum with veteran right hander Jon Garland. Garland, despite a solid 3.66 ERA and 1.16 WHIP, has seen the Dodgers win just one time in his five starts this season.
That losing trend could be in jeopardy tonight, though, at least if Garland's history against the Brewers holds true to form. The 31 year old California native is 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA in six career appearances against Milwaukee.
MLB Predictions Betting Trend: The Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a home underdog with a total between six and seven.
