The defending National League West and World Series Champion Giants will crash the City of Angels tonight to begin a two game set with the division rival Dodgers. This evening's series opener is scheduled to get underway at 10:10pm ET at Dodger Stadium. The latest MLB Odds have Dodgers, who will send staff ace Clayton Kershaw to the hill, listed as a -135 moneyline favorite and the Over/Under set at six.
San Francisco vaulted to the top of the NL West standings earlier this month with a 9-2 run, but the club now trails the Rockies, once again, after dropping back-to-back games in Denver on Monday and Tuesday. The Giants are 22-19 overall and a half game out of first place after their slip up in Colorado.
Los Angeles may not be the place for San Francisco to get back on track as the Giants have dropped three of their four meetings with the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium this season. Clayton Kershaw, a 23 year old southpaw out of Dallas, Texas, aided the Giants' demise in one of those setbacks, holding Bruce Bochy's squad to four hits and zero earned runs over seven innings in a 2-1 Los Angeles' victory on Opening Day.
Kershaw's success against San Francisco has not been limited to that outing, though, as he owns a 3-1 record and 1.07 ERA in eight career appearances opposite the Giants.
Los Angeles, which possesses third place in the NL West with a 20-23 record, hopes to parlay Kershaw's mastery over the Giants into a second consecutive victory. The Dodgers snapped a three game skid last night, beating the Brewers 3-0 to earn a series split with Milwaukee.
Los Angeles will need to overcome a tough Matt Cain this evening if it hopes to reduce the Giants' lead to 2.5 games. Cain owns an impressive 3.55 ERA in 18 starts against the Dodgers, but his record in those outings is a less than stellar 3-8.
Cain is coming off his fourth consecutive quality start after holding Arizona to seven hits and two earned runs over 7.2 innings last Thursday night. He is 3-2 in eight starts this season with a 3.22 ERA.
MLB Predictions Betting Trend: The Dodgers are 7-3 playing as a home favorite with a total between 6 and 7 and Clayton Kershaw on the hill.
