MLB Odds: Yankees vs Mets MLB Picks – May 23rd, 2010: The Subway Series has arrived at game three today with both the Yankees and Mets notching one in the win column over the past two days. Tonight's rubber match, which features two former Cy Young winners, is scheduled to get underway at 8:05pm ET at Citi Field in Flushing, New York; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN. MLB Picks at online bookmaker SPORTSBETTING.com have the Yankees listed as a -145 moneyline favorite to take this evening's game. The game total is set at seven with the Over drawing -125 odds.
The Yankees, which are 13-11 on the road this season, fell to 26-17 last night as the Mets drew even in the three game set with a 5-3 victory. Starting pitcher Phil Hughes suffered his first loss of the season as the Mets tagged him for eight hits and four earned runs in 5.2 innings. Joe Girardi's troops countered with 11 hits but they stranded 13 base runners.
The setback was the fifth in the Yanks last seven games, leaving them five games back of the 31-12 Rays.
The Mets improved to 21-23 with the win and they brought their home record to 15-9 on the season; however, they still find themselves in the National League East basement. New York is just a game behind the fourth place Marlins, though, and 5.5 back of the first place Phillies.
The Mets will look to crawl out of the cellar tonight with staff ace Johan Santana on the mound. New York is 0-2 in the Venezuelan's last two starts, but the losses were anything but Santana's fault. The 31 year old lefty has allowed 11 hits and two earned runs while striking out nine in his last 14 innings pitched. On the year, Santana is 3-2 in nine starts with a 3.72 ERA.
The Yankees will counter Santana with southpaw C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia is 4-2 in nine starts this season with a 3.43 ERA. He has experienced most of his woes on the road, where he is 2-2 with a much bigger 4.58 ERA. The 29 year old California native is coming off a seven inning, four hit, one earned run effort in a 6-7 home loss to the Red Sox.
MLB Picks Betting Trend: The Mets are 2-8 straight up in their last 10 games as a home dog facing a left-handed pitcher.
New York Yankees -1.5 (+115), Over 7 (-125), -145 (Moneyline)
New York Mets +1.5 (-135), Under 7 (+105), +125 (Moneyline)
