MLB Odds: Dodgers vs Cubs MLB Picks – May 25th, 2010: The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs begin a three game series in the Windy City this evening with pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Ryan Dempster on the mound. The Dodgers hot play has improved their record to 25-19, but they still trail the surprising Padres in the National League West by one game.
The Cubs also won their first interleague skirmish of the season, taking two out of three from the Rangers in Arlington to bring their record to 21-24. Chicago, which has won two in a row and six of its last eight, presently owns the third place spot in the six team National League Central. The Cubs are five games back of the Cardinals and Reds, which are tied for first place.
Starting this evening for the Dodgers is southpaw Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw, who is 4-2 on the year with a 3.23 ERA, has been brillant in his last three outings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 23 in 22.1 innings pitched. Los Angeles, to no one's surprise, is 3-0 in those appearances.
The Cubs will counter Kershaw with veteran righty Ryan Dempster. The Canadian has pitched well this season, putting together a 3.73 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, but his record is a dismal 2-4 in nine starts. Chicago is 0-5 in Dempster's last five starts, losing by an average of 1.2 runs per game.
The 33 year old is 1-2 in four starts at Wrigley this year with a 3.72 ERA and .186 batting average against.
