The Florida Marlins made some headway in the National League East on Tuesday with the Phillies losing to Cincinnati coupled with their win at San Francisco cutting their deficit in the divison to one game. Tonight (10:15 pm ET), the Marlins have a good chance to get two straight wins against the San Francisco Giants whose scheduled starter is the hard-luck Madison Bumgarner currently 1-6 on the year. The Marlins will counter Bumgarner with Chris Volstad 2-3, 5.73 ERA.
The Giants are listed -135 favorites for tonight's game on the offshore moneyline with a betting total (over/under) of 7 1/2-runs. Marlins backers are getting +125 as the MLB Odds underdogs.
Bettors looking at tonight's starters might see a weak link in Marlins starter Chris Volstad and his inflated 5.75 ERA. And judging from Bumgarner's last start for the Giants, it looks like he might be ready to emerge from his early season funk. After all, the Giants starter has a solid 3.71 ERA. His 1-6 record is due to mostly lack of run support and defensive problems. Before wagering this game, bettors might want to look at the success Volstad has enjoyed against the Giants, at 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA. For that matter, the Giants have struggled against this Marlins staff the past few years. The Marlins have tossed 12 complete games against the Giants in their short history, more than any other club.
The Marlins got another pitching gem on Tuesday by Ricky Nolasco who nearly went the distance pitching 8 1/3 frames getting a win in the Marlins 5-1 victory. For the game, Marlins backers collected as +120 SU moneyline underdogs while the 6-runs to cross the plate send the game total UNDER the posted 9-runs.
For my Tuesday MLB Odds pick I'm going with Bumbarner to get his second win while giving -135 odds: MLB Best Bet – Giants -135.
