The Tigers improved to 25-18 last night by pummeling the Royals 13-1. The win was the eighth in their last 10 games and it gave them a four game lead in the American League Central division. Detroit, who has scored 235 runs this year, is 10-11 in road contests.

Taking the mound tonight for the red hot Tigers is 25 year old Edwin Jackson. Jackson has been a pleasant surprise this year, sporting a 4-2 record in nine starts with a stellar 2.55 ERA. In 60 innings pitched, Jackson has given up 50 hits, 17 earned runs, and struck out 48.

The Royals fell to 22-23 in last night's lopsided affair, but they are still in second place in the AL Central sitting a half game ahead of the Twins. The loss was Kansas City's sixth in their 10 games and their eleventh in 25 games at Kauffman Stadium this season.

Starting this evening for the struggling Royals is staff ace Zack Greinke. Greinke has been masterful in nine starts, earning a 7-1 record with a 0.82 ERA. In 66 innings pitched the 25 year old right hander has allowed 48 hits and just six earned runs. Opponents are hitting a miserable .203 against the Florida native and he has struck out 73 while walking just 12.

The Royals lost Greinke's last start 8-3 to the Cleveland Indians. Greinke gave up a season high eight hits in six innings and yielded two earned runs to the last place Indians.
