consecutive win. The Rockies bullpen complimented Chacin's effort with three nearly perfect innings, giving up just one hit, no runs, and no walks. Offensively Colorado did not do much, but solo bombs from Troy Tulowitski and Brad Hawpe as well as a wild pitch from Ian Kennedy proved to be enough.
The Rockies now stand at 23-22 on the year, leaving them in fourth place in the tightly contested NL West, just four games back of the first place Padres.
Arizona dropped its second straight game yesterday, bringing the team's record to 20-26, a tally good enough for last place in the division standings. The Diamondbacks are still not totally out of the picture, though, as they are just 7.5 games behind San Diego.
Tonight's starting pitchers are Rodrigo Lopez and Ubaldo Jimenez. Lopez is 2-2 in nine starts for the Diamondbacks with a 4.42 ERA. The 34 year old is coming off one of his worst performances of the season after allowing 10 hits and six earned runs (five innings) in an 8-7 win versus the Giants.
If the National League Cy Young were being handed out today, Jimenez would walk away with the honor. The Dominican native is 8-1 in nine starts with a 0.99 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. Jimenez, who has held opponents to a .171 betting average, is 3-0 in three starts at Coors Field this season with a 1.80 ERA.
