MLB Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants

by Scott Burgess on Thursday, May 29th, 2008

The San Francisco Giants look for their third straight win on the road when they face the Arizona Diamondbacks for game 3 of their three game series. The Diamondbacks have lost seven of their last ten as they play their third home game after a seven game road stint. Oddsmakers at BetUS.com have the Diamondbacks as -200 moneyline favorites over the Giants +170 with the over/under set at 9 runs. Get your MLB Prediction in now at BetUS.com

The Giants will send pitcher Barry Zito (LHP) (1-8, 5.65 ERA) to the mound tonight. Zito got his first win of the season against Florida after he pitched six innings, allowed three hits and gave up one run. Previously Zito lost eight straight. "I think it was good to take a good, hard look at myself in the mirror and ask myself, what am I going to do about this situation?" Zito said. "It's just going out and being aggressive and being myself." San Frans offense, which had been last in the majors in runs for parts of this season, has totaled 44 runs in the last seven games. Bengie Molina was 3-for-4 with his fifth straight multi-RBI game in Wednesday's 11-3 win, and the Giants catcher has hit safely in 10 straight games, batting .625 (20-for-32) on the road trip. Ray Durham added a home run and four RBIs Wednesday, while Aaron Rowand was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. In his last five games, Rowand is 9-for-18 with two homers and 10 RBIs. Zito must have the run support the Giants are getting now, previously before their win streak he was getting 2.2 runs per game through nine innings. The Giants are 11-16 on the road and 28-24 over/under.

The Diamondbacks have just three wins in their last ten games and they’ll look to pitcher Randy Johnson (LHP) (4-1, 4.03 ERA) to get them out of their slump. Johnson lost his last start 1-3 to Atlanta on the road, he pitched six innings, allowed five hits and gave up one run. Previously Johnson went 5-0 before his loss in Atlanta. Arizona’s lineup has been held to three runs in each game of its three-game losing streak. The Diamondbacks have dropped seven of nine, scoring three or fewer runs in each of the losses. Arizona hasn't been swept at home all season. The D-backs are ranked 7th in the league with 56 homers and they are ranked 4th with 5.11 RPG. They are 19-10 at home and 28-21 over/under.
