by Reno Gold on Monday, May 31st, 2010

Rockies at Giants MLB Picks: The best Memorial Day pitching matchup will take place at AT&T Park in San Francisco when the Giants send Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum to the mound to battle the Colorado Rockies and their ace, Ubaldo Jimenez. The Giants and Rockies need to win in order to keep pace in the tight National League West race. The Giants are currently in third place but only 2.5 games behind the first place San Diego Padres. The Rockies are fourth in the West only 4.0 games back.

Rockies at Giants MLB Picks - May 31, 2010The Rockies are -117 odds favorites for today's game on the Bodog.com moneyline with a 6 run total. Giants backers are getting +107 odds as a home underdog.

Jimenez improved upon his big league-leading numbers with his ninth win of the season on Wednesday night as he lowered his ERA to 0.88. He beat the D-backs for the second time this year and has not allowed a run in 17 innings. He'll be facing the Giants for the first time Monday, the only remaining team in the National League West yet to face Jimenez this season.

Lincecum hasn't displayed his Cy Young numbers of late as he's allowed 11 runs in his last 9 2/3 innings after giving up 11 in his first 56 innings. He's also lost the strike zone, allowing 5 walks in each of the last two games pitched. In his last start against the Rockies, he equalled his worst start since 2008 allowing six runs on six h its and five walks over 4 1/2 innings. He's 5-3 in 11 starts with a 3.52 ERA against the Rockies.

The Giants have suddenly picked up the pace by winning four straight and five of their last six games including a three game series sweep against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend. Four of the previous five games played went OVER the posted total.

Colorado is entering its series with the Giants after losing two of three games in a series with the Dodgers in Los Angeles over the weekend. Two of three games went UNDER the posted total.

MLB Picks: Going with an UNDER-6 total seems risky, even with good starting pitching from both sides. Too many things can happen resulting in runs. That's why the OVER-6 is the best pick of the day.
