Arizona lost its ninth consecutive game when Kemp's homer sailed over the left field wall last night. The Diamondbacks carry a 20-33 mark into today's meeting with the Dodgers as a result, a tally which has them firmly planted in the NL West cellar. The team trails San Diego by 11.5 games and it lags behind the fourth place Giants by eight.
Starting for Arizona this afternoon is 26 year old Edwin Jackson. Jackson has been slightly better of late, allowing eight earned runs in his last 22.2 innings of work while striking out 28; however, his ERA is still a bloated 6.03 on the season and his record is 3-6 in 11 starts. The Diamondbacks are a meager 3-8 when he has taken the hill this year.
The Dodgers will counter Jackson with 24 year old Carlos Monasterios. The Venezuelan will be making just his third start of the season, but he is 2-0 in 13 appearances with a 2.70 ERA and 1.15 WHIP.
