The Atlanta Braves have won the first two games of a four game series with the visiting Florida Marlins and will shoot for a third straight victory Wednesday in an afternoon matinee (1:05 p.m. ET) with future Hall of Famer LHP Tom Glavine (2-2, 4.56 ERA) taking the mound. Starting for the Marlins is LHP Mark Hendrickson (7-3, 5.26 ERA). MLB Betting oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog (Bodoglife.com) currently have the Braves listed as 152-moneyline favorites versus the Marlins.
Hendrickson’s last start was a forgetful one. He allowed a career-high 10 runs (all earned), which matched a Marlins franchise record now reached four times. The Phillies jumped on the 6-foot-9 lefty, slapping out seven hits and two homers. He had won two straight decisions and seven of eight decisions before his season-short 3 2/3-inning outing. On April 16, Hendrickson beat the Braves, giving up three runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings.
After allowing a season-high six walks and tying a season high with six earned runs in his last start, Tom Glavine gave up two runs and five hits in six innings Friday against the Reds, but earned a no-decision. He struck out five and walked two, and the only runs he gave up came in a two-run sixth inning. Glavine has been inconsistent this season. In one start, he will look out of sorts and miss with his location on the corners. In another start, he has pinpoint precision and gives up nothing more than harmless singles.
Greg Norton's two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Braves past the Marlins 5-4 on Tuesday night.
Atlanta won as -160 home favorites as the game played under the 9.5-run total set by MLB Betting oddsmakers.
Chipper Jones went 3-for-4 with a three-run jack for the Braves, while Will Ohman picked up the win in relief of starter Jorge Campillo for Atlanta.
Dan Uggla was 2-for-3 with a homer and three runs batted in for Florida, as Matt Lindstrom took the loss after allowing Norton's double in the eighth.
