MLB Picks Preview: The Florida Marlins are calling up rookie RHP Ryan Tucker (0-0, 0:00 ERA) to pitch against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. The Reds hope to get a win along with Ken Griffey Jr.’s 600 career home run when they continue their weekend series at Dolphin Stadium for a 1:10 p.m. ET Sunday matinee. Taking the ball for the Reds will be RHP Aaron Harang (2-8, 3.86 ERA). MLB Picks oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have installed Cincinnati as a 125- moneyline favorite in this game with a 9.0 total. Marlins backers are getting +105 ML juice.
Harang stretched his winless streak to four and continued to get very little in the way of run support in his last start, a 3-2 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday. He pitched six-plus innings and gave up three runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts. He threw 113 pitches, which marks the second-most he's thrown all season. Harang's last victory came in his only appearance against the Marlins this season on May 12. He pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts, and despite giving up three early home runs, managed to come away with the win.
Tucker is a hard-throwing 21-year-old righty who was one of the Marlins' five first-round picks in 2005. He is the first of the group to make his MLB debut. He was in the big league spring camp the past two years.
Cody Ross hit a two-out, two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Florida Marlins an 8-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds and Ken Griffey Jr., who remained stuck on 599 home runs for one more night.
Burke Badenhop picked up the win in relief for the Marlins who covered as a -126 home favorite. The 15 runs scored soared OVER the posted 9.0 total.
