MLB Betting Preview: New York Mets vs Los Angeles Angels

by Alexander Banks on Monday, June 16th, 2008

MLB Betting Preview: The Los Angeles Angels will be looking to improve on their previous Inter League play series with the Braves when they host the New York Mets for three games beginning Monday night at Angels Stadium. Over the weekend the Angels lost their series to the Braves only winning one of three games. The Angels will look to RHP Jered Weaver (6-6, 4.45 ERA) to pick up a win while the Mets send RHP Mike Pelfrey (2-6, 4.24 ERA) to the mound. MLB Betting oddsmakers at SportsBetting.com have installed the Angels as -152 moneyline favorites with an 8 ½ run total.

Pelfrey threw a career-high eight strikeouts to blank the D-backs for eight innings Wednesday. He pitched into the ninth inning, giving up a single and his one earned run before exiting with 112 throws. It marked Pelfrey's third straight start allowing two runs or fewer, but he also picked up his third straight no-decision. Despite his recent improvement, Pelfrey has not recorded a win since April 15 against the Nationals.

Weaver pitched one of his best games of the season Tuesday against the Rays, allowing just one hit and four runs in eight strong innings. Weaver took an aggressive approach to the mound and threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of the 27 batters he faced. He's been up-and-down this season but it certainly was one of his better performances. He's never faced the Mets in his three-year career but is 3-0 in four career Interleague starts with a 3.10 ERA.

The Mets defeated the Rangers 4-2 as a -150 favorite in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Sunday. The six runs scored fell UNDER the posted over/under total (9.5).

Pedro Martinez allowed only on earned run on six hits over six innings and Robinson Cancel had a pair of RBI.

The Angels defeated Atlanta 2-0 as a -155 favorite on Sunday. The two runs scored fell UNDER the posted over/under total (9)

Joe Sunder pitched seven 1-3 shutout innings for the Angels, while Casey Kotchman hit a two-run home run in the win.
