What do you do with a baseball team that can't buy a win? You make a MLB Odds wager against them of course. And that's the case with the Florida Marlins, a team floundering in the National League East – going from contender to cellar dwellar in two weeks time. So how bad is it for the Marlins? It's losers of 14-of-15 games played in June; that's how bad. For bettors however, it's a gold mine if they got on the wagon in time. Today, the Marlins look to salvage one game of a four game series when they play the Philadelphia Phillies in a 1 pm ET get-away game at Citizens Bank Park.
While talking about the Marlins misfortunes, we must not forget about the Phillies fortunes. The NL East leaders are looking to win their seventh straight game today and have won eight of the last 10 played. The prospects of bettors cashing on the Marlins misfortunes today look pretty good with Philadelphia giving former Cy Young Award pitcher Cliff Lee the start. The Phillies left-hander is 6-5 on the year to go along with a 3.41 ERA. Countering for the Marlins is right-hander Javier Vazquez, currently 3-6 with a 7.07 ERA.
With Vazquez and Lee the scheduled starters, oddsmakers list the Phillies as -235 MLB Odds favorites while Marlins backers are getting +185 as moneyline underdogs. A 8-run game total has been installed for over/under bettors. Runline prices have the Phillies at -1 1/2 giving -120 while Florida at +1 1/2 giving -110.
Vazquez has allowed 13 runs on 15 hits in 7 2/3 innings over his last two starts. The Phillies starter surrendered six runs, five of them earned, on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings on May 9, the last time he faced Phillies at Sun Life Stadium.
Lee enjoyed a solid outing his last time out against the Cubs, going eight innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven. Lee's won his last four home starts, allowing five runs and striking out 35 in that span.
