MLB Betting Preview:
Inter League play seems to agree with the New York Yankees having won five straight games including a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros over the weekend followed by a shut-out win on Tuesday versus the San Diego Padres. Wednesday night, the Yankees will face last years NL Cy Young award winner Jake Peavy in their second series game against the Padres. Peavy is 5-3 this season with a 3.02 ERA. The Yankees will counter with Darrel Rasner. The righthander Rasner has a 3.64 ERA to go along with a 3-4 record this season. MLB Betting oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog (Bodoglife.com) currently have the Yankees listed as 130-moneyline favorites versus the Padres, while the game's total is sitting at 9.
In his first start back since being sidelined for nearly a month, Peavy tossed six scoreless innings in a 9-0 victory on June 12. Peavy struck out four and did not walk a single batter in his first game since May 14. He went on the disabled list with a sprained right elbow on May 20. Peavy needed only 72 pitches to get through six innings and generally felt good about the outing. This will be Peavy's first career start at Yankee Stadium.
Arguably the Yankees' best starter of the first half so far, along with Mike Mussina, Rasner was soundly rapped for the first time this year on Wednesday, allowing six consecutive hits at one point in the third inning of an abbreviated start at Oakland. Rasner allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings as the A's kept taking him the opposite way, never allowing the righty to establish command of his four-seamer. Rasner has lost his last four decisions after winning his first three.
Jason Giambi had two homers and three runs batted in, as the Yankees blanked the Padres 8-0 on Tuesday night. New York won as -165 home favorites as the game played under the 9-run total listed by oddsmakers. Andy Pettitte shut out the Padres for seven innings to get the win for the Yankees, who got two RBIs from Derek Jeter in the payday.
Losing pitcher Randy Wolf was roughed up for five earned runs over four innings for San Diego, while Chase Headley went 2-for-4 for the Padres.
