The St.Louis Cardinals play host to the Detroit Tiger tonight, Thursday June 18, as the Cards look to sweep the Tigers for the first time and they’ll also try for their seventh straight home win against Detroit. MLB oddsmakers at SBGglobal.com have the Cardinals as -118 moneyline favs over the Tigers (+108) with the over/under listed at 9 runs. The Tigers (34-31) are riding a four game slump, losing six of their last ten games. They’ll look to rookie pitcher Rick Porcello (7-4, 3.71 ERA) as they try to avoid a season-high fifth straight loss. Since May 5, Porcello is 6-1 with a 2.53 ERA, and he allowed one run over seven innings in Friday night's 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh. During his first three major league at bats Porcello had two hits and drove in three runs. One of the team's more experienced hitters, Curtis Granderson, broke an 0-for-10 slump and 0-for-22 skid in interleague play with Wednesday's 3-for-4 performance that included two solo homers. Granderson has batted .467 (21 for 45) with three homers and 11 RBIs against the Cardinals. The Tigers are 0-5 at the new Busch Stadium after dropping their final game at the Cardinals' previous home in 2001. The Tigers are 17-20 on the road where they average 4.19 runs for and 4.78 runs against.

The Cardinals (36-30) have won back to back over the Tigers outscoring them 15-5, but they have only five wins in their last ten games. Albert Pujols went hitless in four tries yesterday, but with help from Colby Rasmus and Molina they provided three hits apiece and drove in a combined three runs for St. Louis. The reigning NL MVP, is again producing award-winning numbers in hitting .323 with a major league-leading 23 home runs and 58 RBIs. He's also been intentionally walked 21 times, including once in Wednesday night's 4-3 win over the Tigers, and drawn 51 overall walks.  The Cards will start righty Joel Pineiro (5-7, 3.99 ERA) tonight as he tries to snap a four game winless skid. He has two wins since May 2, but he is 6-1 with a 2.82 ERA in 10 appearances against the Tigers, all from 2000-06 while with Seattle. He’ll hope to have some offensive help as his teammates are averaging less than two runs per-start in his last eight outings. The Cardinals are 21-15 at home where they average 4.36 runs for and 4.11 runs against.
