The Orioles took advantage of Mets starter Tim Redding yesterday,producing seven hits, four walks, and four earned runs off of the veteran pitcher in a little over five innings. Outfielder Nick Markakis led the charge for the O's, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Aubrey Huff aided Markakis with two hits and three RBI.

The win brought the Orioles record to 28-37, a mark good enough for last place in the tough American League East. Baltimore, which is 20-17 at Camden Yards this year, is 12 games behind the division leading Boston Red Sox.

Rookie hurler Jason Berken will take the hill tonight for Baltimore. The Green Bay, Wisconsin native has gone 1-3 in four starts with a 7.32 ERA. The right-hander has worked a total of 19.2 innings, giving up 26 hits and 16 earned runs. Berken's last two starts has been particularly rough; he has allowed 15 hits and 13 earned runs in 7.2 innings (16.25 ERA).

The Mets dropped to 33-30 last night but they remained in second place in the National League East, three games behind the Phillies. New York, who begins a 10 game home stand following tonight's contest, has lost five of their last seven games and they are 15-19 away from Citi Field.

Taking the mound tonight for the Mets is 13 year veteran Livan Hernandez. The 34 year old Hernandez is 5-1 in 12 starts this year with a 4.33 ERA. The big righty has given up 81 hits and 35 earned runs in 72.2 innings. Hernandez struggled mightily in his last start as he allowed seven hits and six earned runs in an 8-9 loss at Yankee Stadium.
