The Diamondbacks (28-38) ended a three game losing skid by beat the Royals 12-5 yesterday; this is their fourth win in their last ten games. Stephen Drew hit a three-run triple during a five-run eighth inning, and Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the seventh for his team-leading 18th. Tonight the D-backs will go with pitcher Dan Haren (5-4, 2.20 ERA) who’s won his last two starts ,/a>and he’ll also try to improve to 8-0 in his last nine interleague starts. Haren has been amongst the top of the NL’s ERA leaders most of the season, but he isn’t getting any offense to match his pitching. The Diamondbacks have batted .245 this season, but after giving their right-hander an average of 2.7 runs through his first eight starts, they have averaged nearly 6.9 over his last five. Arizona's relievers, however, couldn't hold on to leads in Haren's starts at Los Angeles on June 2 and at San Diego five days later. Haren made sure the bullpen didn't squander a seven-run lead Friday against visiting Houston when he completed his first career two-hitter in the 8-1 victory. Arizona is 14-15 on the road.

The Royals (29-35) have won six of their last ten games while going 4-1 in their last five home games. The Royals only managed two runs over the first eight innings and scored three in their final at-bat, including Jose Guillen's RBI single. The Royals will bring pitcher Luke Hochevar (2-2, 5.60 ERA) to the mound tonight as he tries for his third straight win. He’s won both starts since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha on June 6, and recorded his first career complete game Friday against visiting Cincinnati. The right-hander allowed three hits and walked one while tossing just 80 pitches in the 4-1 win. Guillen had three hits and drove in three runs, and is 8 of 16 with six RBIs over his last four games against Arizona. The Royals are 19-16 at home.

Recent Trends to Consider:

  • Over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.
  • Diamondbacks are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings.

  • Royals are 1-4 in Hochevars last 5 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance.
